The second entry in our 8-part series looking at artistic depictions of events in the life of Jesus.

In the introductory post, I outlined a brief reflection on the relationship between theology and art. The previous installment examined the Nativity of Christ. In this entry, we’re going to consider the Baptism of Jesus.

Before We Begin:

Before you click on the audio description of the pieces of art, do the following:

  • Read Matthew 3:1–17 in your preferred Bible translation, and then take a minute to reflect on the following questions:

    • What is this passage about?

    • Who is in this scene?

    • What happens immediately before this passage? What comes immediately after this passage?

    • What stands out to you in this passage?

  • Look at each of the following images, one at a time

  • For each image, consider the following questions

    • What is this image of?

    • What stands out to you?

    • What do you wonder about in the picture?

After you have done the above steps for each picture, go ahead and click on the audio description.
