An Artistic Journey through the Life of Christ: The Nativity

The first entry in our 8-week series looking at artistic depictions of events in the life of Jesus.

In the introductory post, I outlined a brief reflection on the relationship between theology and art. Today’s post is the first entry in our 8-week series looking at artistic depictions of events in the life of Christ, and we’re going to focus on the Nativity of Christ.

Before We Begin:

Before you click on the audio description of the pieces of art, do the following:

  • Read Luke 2:1-20 in your preferred Bible translation, and then take a minute to reflect on the following questions:

    • What is this passage about?

    • Who is in this scene?

    • What happens immediately before this passage? What comes immediately after this passage?

    • What stands out to you in this passage?

  • Look at each of the following two images, one at a time

  • For each image, consider the following questions:

    • What is this image of?

    • What stands out to you?

    • What do you wonder about in the picture?

After you have done the above steps for each picture, go ahead and click on the audio description.
